Moving gives you an opportunity to sort belongings and book skip hire in Cardiff to manage bulk waste during your move.
You should assess the volume of items for disposal and choose the correct skip size. Small skips suit a single-room clear-out, medium skips work for major declutters, and large skips handle full-house removals. Get measurements of access points so the driver can position the skip safely.
You must check whether the skip will sit on private property or a public road. If you need road placement, apply for a permit from the local council and allow time for approval. Ask the hire company if they include the permit cost when you book.
You should sort items by waste types before loading. Separate recycling (paper, cardboard, metal), general household waste and green waste. Do not place hazardous waste (paint, batteries, asbestos) in the skip; arrange specialist disposal for those items.
You must arrange clear delivery and collection times that fit your moving schedule. Confirm the booking a few days before delivery and keep a contact number for the hire firm. Allow a buffer day either side of your move to avoid stress if timings shift.
You should load the skip safely and mind weight limits. Place heavier items first and break bulky items down to maximise space. Avoid overfilling; the hire company will refuse an unsafe load and you may incur extra charges.
You must label boxes destined for disposal and keep a short inventory of items you place in the skip, so you do not accidentally discard valuables. Use protective gloves and consider hiring help for heavy lifting.
You should compare quotes from several firms, check that they hold a valid licence and ask about insurance and waste transfer notes. Choose a company with clear communication and good local reviews to ensure a smooth clear-out during your move.
